QARINA.ORG RECORD NO. 001
قَرِينَة

qarina

/qa·ri·na/ noun · Arabic legal term
1.

law. A corroborating circumstance. Evidence that points toward the truth but must be verified before it can prove anything.

2.

software. An open-source research workspace for human rights investigators. It searches the lanes you permit, collects what it finds, records how it found it, and hands back a report you can take apart. Every claim keeps its receipt.

AI finds leads. Humans establish facts.

EXHIBIT A · COLLECTION

Six lanes: web, news, images, video, documents, and channels. You decide which may run, and the model is handed only the tools you allowed. Not a request in a prompt, a shorter list of what exists. Twenty image results a sweep, because a wider net costs the same as a narrow one.

EXHIBIT B · CORROBORATION

Every YouTube result is opened, not just linked: channel and publication metadata, a timestamped transcript, thumbnails for reverse search, and the pivots worth trying next. This lane runs before the model gets a turn, so the evidence does not depend on the model thinking to look.

EXHIBIT C · THE RECORD

Each report closes with its own methodology: every tool call with a timestamp, the models that ran, the cited pages pushed to the Internet Archive, and a SHA-256 of the report body. A reader who distrusts the conclusion can audit the collection.

Schedule 1 · what it does

content credentials
Images are checked for a C2PA manifest: who signed it, what edited it, and whether the file declares itself AI-generated. A signature, not a detector's hunch.
channels
Public Telegram channels are read post by post, each entry linked to its own message rather than the channel it came from. Arabic and English alike.
x
Searched through Grok's native index when you switch it on. Off by default, because it bills per search and you should be the one deciding to spend it.
two languages
Reports in Arabic or English. Arabic is typeset in Amiri and reads right to left, not bolted on as an afterthought.
the ledger
Every run states what it cost, as billed by the provider rather than estimated from a price list. An instrument you cannot afford to run is not an instrument.
durability
Close the tab and the run finishes anyway. Come back to the address and the report is waiting. Investigations outlast browser sessions.
custody
Each account holds its own workspace. Research is not pooled between users, and the history belongs to whoever ran it.

Schedule 2 · what it will not do

A tool for accountability work is judged as much by its refusals as by its features. These are load-bearing.

  • It will not tell you an image is authentic.
  • It will not score a video for deepfake likelihood.
  • It will not geolocate a photograph and call it a finding.
  • It will not treat missing content credentials as evidence of tampering. Most platforms strip them when they re-encode an upload.
  • It will not present a channel post or a search summary as verified, because neither is. They are labelled leads.
  • It will not promise preservation. Archiving is best effort, and a snapshot request that fails is not proof that anything was kept.
  • It will not claim a hash makes a report true. The hash proves the text was not altered after it was generated. Nothing more.
